Rayon Fabric is a semi-synthetic material that is made from cellulose fibers that have been treated with a range of chemicals to change the structure. There are many varieties of rayon fibers, some of which mimics the feel of natural fibers such as: silk, wool, cotton and linen.
Advantages of rayon fabric:
- Soft, smooth and drape well;
- Beautiful and shiny texture;
- Very pleasant to the body;
- Absorbs moisture and water well;
- Does not electrify;
- Well stained and retains color.
Disadvantages of rayon fabric:
- Passes air worse than natural, but better than synthetic;
- Absolutely no stretch, easy to tear when wet;
- When sewing causes inconvenience;
- Needs delicate care.
Rayon is used for sewing weekend, home and casual wear. Scarves and stoles are very popular, they look like natural ones, while being affordable.
